The Flame Angelfish is a popular and eye-catching addition to many aquariums. It boasts a bold red/orange color with vertical black stripes on its body and horizontal black stripes along the caudal portions of the blue-tipped dorsal and anal fins, making it one of the most popular dwarf angelfish.

To keep a Flame Angelfish, a tank of at least 70 gallons with plenty of hiding places and live rock for grazing is necessary. This species has a tendency to nip at stony and soft corals, sessile invertebrates, and clam mantles. If you wish to add a Flame Angelfish to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced. It adapts well to aquarium life, but should be kept in an established system and housed with dissimilar genera. The Flame Angel is very sensitive to elevated levels of copper, and exposure to levels near or above 0.15 ppm should be avoided.

The Flame Angelfish is hermaphroditic and challenging to breed in an aquarium, with no distinguishable differences in color between males and females.

To maintain a healthy Flame Angelfish, a varied diet is required consisting of Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other high-quality meaty items.
