Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
The Harlequin Tusk, native to the reefs of the Indian Ocean and Australia, displays distinct variations in coloration. Indian Ocean Tusks feature orange stripes with white margins, complemented by a touch of blue near the tail. Australian Tusks, on the other hand, exhibit orange stripes with vibrant blue margins that extend from the pectoral fin along the back to the tail. Both color forms boast striking blue teeth or tusks that aid in crushing invertebrates. These fascinating fish are a valuable addition to a FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) aquarium. While they may initially be shy when small, they develop personality and confidence as they mature.
For the Harlequin Tusk, an aquarium with a minimum capacity of 125 gallons is recommended. The tank should provide ample live rock to serve as hiding places. It is suitable to house moderately aggressive and active fish such as Angels, Tangs, and smaller Triggers in the same environment. It is important to keep only one Harlequin Tusk per tank. Although they do not pose a threat to corals, they will consume small crustaceans like snails or crabs.
The diet of the Harlequin Tusk Wrasse should consist of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Additionally, incorporating high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food into their feeding regimen is beneficial.
