The Formosa Wrasse, also known as the Formosan Coris or Queen Coris, exhibits significant variations in appearance between its juvenile and adult stages. Juveniles feature an orange body adorned with white tiger stripes spanning across the back. These stripes, as well as the fins, are outlined in black. In contrast, adult females display a dark blue-green body adorned with black spots. The fins are accentuated with red, and an eye-catching light-blue diagonal stripe crosses the orange face. Adult males exhibit a light-blue body with vertical blue stripes and several green stripes on the face.

To accommodate the Formosa Wrasse, a spacious aquarium with a minimum capacity of 180 gallons is recommended. The tank should provide a 4-6 inch layer of sand, allowing the wrasse to bury itself when needed. This species is an adept hunter and will thoroughly explore every nook and cranny in search of food. It has a diverse diet, which includes urchins, crabs, shrimp, and small invertebrates.

In terms of feeding, the Formosa Wrasse should be provided with a well-rounded diet. This can include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, along with other meaty foods. Additionally, incorporating high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food will contribute to its overall nutrition.
