In its juvenile stage, measuring 2 inches, it displays a deep blue color with several distinctive white vertical bars. The body is encased in a metallic blue hue, complemented by a vibrant yellow tail.
As the Maculosus Angelfish grows, a prominent bright vertical bar emerges, gradually replacing the initial white vertical stripes. When reaching a length of 3-4 inches, a neon blue irregular pattern becomes evident. The central vertical stripe transforms into a vivid yellow, and the tail takes on a transparent yellow color. In its adult phase, the fish adopts a stunning blue coloration with a significant vertical yellow bar along its midbody. The caudal fin remains transparent yellow, setting it apart from the Asfur Angel, characterized by a bold yellow tail and a dark purple body.
The Captive-Bred Maculosus Angelfish is a hardy species suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists. Given its potential size of up to a foot, it is advisable to house it in a tank of 250 gallons or more, with only one specimen per tank. Not recommended for reef aquariums, this angelfish may nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles.
As a member of the Pomacanthidae family, the Maculosus Angelfish is hermaphroditic, challenging to breed, and exhibits no discernible color variations between males and females.
