Minimum Tank Size: 360 gallons
The Vlamingii Tang, also known as the Vlaming's Unicornfish or Bignose Unicornfish, exhibits a captivating color transformation as it matures. The adult boasts a rich brown to purple body color, while the juvenile features a gradation from lighter on the dorsal side to darker on the ventral side. Adorned with vertical markings and brilliant bright blue highlights, this fish presents an eye-catching sight. The fins, tail, and face are adorned with striking blue accents.
To cater to the Vlamingii Tang's needs, a spacious aquarium of at least 360 gallons is essential, providing ample swimming room and sufficient hiding spots. To prevent potential jumping attempts, the tank should have a secure, tight-fitting lid. While the Vlamingii Tang can display aggression towards other Tangs, it generally maintains a peaceful demeanor when coexisting with other fish and poses no threat to sessile invertebrates within the reef aquarium.
A balanced diet is vital for the Vlamingii Tang's well-being. Although it will consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, incorporating marine-based seaweed and algae into its diet is crucial. This dietary choice enhances its immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Offering dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip is recommended, with feeding sessions of at least three times per week. Excellent products such as Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal choices, as they are easy to use and offer essential nutrients for the fish's thriving health.
