The Blue Girdled Angelfish, also known as the Majestic Angelfish, is distinguished by its yellow scales with blue borders and a dark blue band that covers its face and extends backward. This blue band is accentuated with neon blue margins. Despite being somewhat timid, it is one of the easier angelfish to care for. It requires a tank of at least 180 gallons with numerous hiding spots and live rock for grazing. However, it is not recommended for a reef aquarium, as it may nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. It is generally not harmful to small-polyped stony corals or mildly noxious soft corals.

To meet the dietary requirements of the Blue Girdled Angelfish, its diet should include Spirulina and marine algae, meaty items such as mysis shrimp, and high-quality angelfish preparations that contain sponges and other vegetable matter.
