Rock Beauty Angel (Holacanthus tricolor)
Max Size: 8 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: With Caution. May eat soft polyps.
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallon
The Rock Beauty Angelfish features a black body, especially towards the back, with a bright yellow head, front half of the body, and caudal fin, with sapphire-blue accents on the eyes. Juveniles have a mostly yellow body with a large black caudal spot that gradually takes over most of the yellow coloration, except for the head, body area behind the head, and the caudal fin.
Due to its dietary needs, the Rock Beauty Angelfish is challenging to maintain in a home aquarium. Its diet should include vegetable matter such as marine algae and Spirulina, finely chopped meaty items, and high-quality angelfish preparations that contain sponges.
