The Purple Queen Anthias (Pseudanthias tuka) possesses a unique hermaphroditic characteristic, where all individuals are born as females, and the dominant female can transform into a male when necessary. Unlike many other Anthias species, they do not exhibit sexual dimorphism. Their appearance includes a soft pink/purple body with blue edging on their fins, and their face displays a delightful combination of colors, with a yellow chin.
To house the Purple Queen Anthias, you have the option of keeping a mated pair or a small school of females. However, it's crucial to avoid keeping two males in the same tank, as it can lead to severe aggression issues.
These Anthias have a peaceful nature, making them suitable for reef tank setups with ample live rock. Nonetheless, as one of the more sensitive genera of Anthias, they require expert care and attention.
Maintaining a balanced diet is essential for the well-being of Purple Queen Anthias. Their food should consist of a variety of copepods, frozen mysis, and vitamin-enriched brine shrimp. Additionally, providing them with high-quality flake foods 3-5 times daily will help meet their nutritional needs. Keeping a steady supply of these nutritious foods is crucial to their health.
