The Randalli Anthias, scientifically known as Pseudanthias randalli, exhibits fascinating hermaphroditic characteristics. Initially, all individuals are born as females, and when necessary, the dominant female undergoes a transformation into a male. This species also showcases sexual dimorphism, where males display a striking striped pattern in vibrant red, magenta, purple, and yellow, while females exhibit the same colors, albeit with less intensity, a pale underbelly, and a yellow snout. When keeping them in captivity, you have the option to maintain a mated pair or house them in a small group of females. However, it's crucial to avoid housing two males together in the same tank, as this can result in severe aggression.
Randalli Anthias are known for their hardiness and can thrive in a reef tank environment enriched with plenty of live rock. To maintain their health, provide a diverse diet, which should consist of a regular supply of copepods, frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and high-quality flake foods. Feeding them 3-5 times daily will help ensure their nutritional needs are met.
