The Red Fairy Anthias, also known as Tricolor Anthias, Red Fairy Basslet, Silver Streak, or Kashiwae Anthias (Pseudanthias Kashiwae), can be found in various locations including the west Pacific Ocean, Red Sea, Maldives, and the Great Barrier Reef. Distinguishing between male and female Red Fairy Anthias is fairly straightforward. The male displays a well-developed lateral red bar and a red caudal fin, whereas the female only has red tips on the caudal fin and a pinkish-orange body color. The male Red Fairy Anthias or Tricolor Anthias typically has a yellow rear body, an orange head, and a broad red bar along its side. On the other hand, females have a light red hue with yellow marks on their scales and a white belly. Both sexes exhibit a violet band extending from below the eye to the base of the pectoral fin. In terms of size, they can reach a length of up to 4 inches.

Similar to other Anthias species, the Red Fairy Anthias is hermaphroditic. In the event that the dominant male dies, the largest female in the group often undergoes a transformation to fill its role. When it comes to keeping these fish in captivity, the Red Fairy Anthias or Tricolor Anthias is considered moderately easy. Ideally, it is advisable to have only one male per aquarium, unless you have a very large tank exceeding 50 gallons. This species has been observed displaying aggression towards other fish that feed on zooplankton. To ensure their well-being, provide them with clean, well-oxygenated water, ample water movement, open swimming space, and a diet consisting of zooplankton and small organisms like brine shrimp and copepods.
