The Panamic Barnacle Blenny, also known as Hancock’s Blenny, is commonly found in the waters from El Salvador to Panama and south to Ecuador. Its body and fins are covered in a mix of black, white, and red colors. This species resembles the Mexican Barnacle Blenny, but has a dark brown to charcoal spot behind its eye, red lips, a red iris, and red on the front of its dorsal fin.
To provide a suitable environment, a 10-gallon or larger aquarium with multiple hiding places and plenty of rocks is necessary. These fish are very entertaining to observe as they quickly dart around to grab food from the water column while trying to avoid being eaten by other fish. They typically live in small crevices in rocks, only occasionally exposing their body. Therefore, it is best to provide plenty of rock crevices in which they can hide.
The Panamic Barnacle Blenny is a carnivore and requires a diet consisting of finely chopped crustacean flesh, vitamin-enriched frozen brine and mysis shrimp. It does best in a well-established aquarium with plenty of crevices in the rocks in which it can hide.
