Forktail Blenny (Meiacanthus atrodorsalis)
Max Size: 5 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Forktail Blenny, which goes by the names Lyretail Fang Blenny or Yellowtail Fang Blenny, is a type of fish with a unique caudal fin that resembles a fork. This fin has two long outer spines and five shorter middle spines. The body coloration of this fish is pale blue, which fades into a bluish-yellow at the tail, giving it a watercolor-like appearance. During breeding, males experience a series of color changes, and they tend to be larger than females.
To provide a comfortable living environment for this fish, a minimum tank size of 30 gallons with live rock for hunting and grazing is necessary. It is advisable to keep only one Forktail Blenny per tank, except when breeding pairs are maintained. However, the Forktail Blenny is venomous, so caution must be exercised when children have access to the tank as it may perceive fingers as a threat and bite, which can be quite painful.
The Forktail Blenny is an omnivore, and its diet should consist of finely chopped crustacean flesh, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and frozen herbivore preparations, as well as mysis.
