Bundoon Blenny (Meiacanthus bundoon)
Max Size: 3 1/2 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Bundoon Blenny is native to Tonga in the South Pacific and has a unique fork-like caudal fin. Its body is mostly black with a yellow stripe extending horizontally from behind the eye to the middle of the body. During breeding, males undergo a series of color changes.
To provide enough space for grazing and hunting, the Bundoon Blenny requires a minimum tank size of 30 gallons with live rock. It is recommended to keep only one per tank, unless a breeding pair is desired. Despite its aggressive behavior towards attackers, it is a hardy and durable fish suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists. The Bundoon Blenny is a good choice for a reef aquarium as it does not harm invertebrates or corals. However, it is venomous and should be kept with caution around children who may accidentally provoke it.
To maintain a healthy diet, the Bundoon Blenny should be fed finely chopped crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and frozen herbivore preparations.
