The Kaudern's Cardinal, also known as the Longfin Cardinalfish or Banggai Cardinalfish, is a visually appealing fish with an uncomplicated yet sophisticated coloration and pattern. Its body is predominantly silver with pearly white spots, and its long fins are accentuated by bold black stripes. LiveAquaria offers captive-bred Kaudern's Cardinalfish, which are more robust than their wild counterparts.
To house the Banggai Cardinalfish, a well-filtered aquarium of at least 30 gallons with a substantial amount of live rock should be provided. The landscape should be meticulously arranged to provide an ample amount of caves, overhangs, and crevices, as well as an open area for swimming. The Kaudern's Cardinal is a sluggish and systematic swimmer, so it should be housed with tranquil tank mates. Groups of Banggai Cardinalfish can coexist peacefully in more extensive systems with abundant swimming and hiding spaces. The Banggai Cardinalfish will appreciate moderate water movement.
Breeding the Kaudern's Cardinal is relatively easy in the aquarium setting. After spawning, the male carries the eggs in his mouth to protect them.
The Kaudern's Cardinal should be fed small quantities of food several times a day, consisting of a well-balanced diet enriched with frozen brine shrimp and mysis shrimp, along with high-quality marine pellets or flakes.
