The Orbiculate Cardinalfish, belonging to the Apogonidae family, is a sturdy fish that can be found in coastal regions across the Indo Pacific area. These fish usually group together near caves and overhangs. They grow up to 4 inches in length and have a black belt across their silvery midsection, along with dark spots near their tail. They are most active during the evening and will eat any prepared aquarium food. Due to its characteristics, the Orbic Cardinalfish is an excellent fish for those new to marine aquariums.
Suitable for small schools, Orbic Cardinalfish should be kept in aquariums that are at least 30 gallons in size. These fish are slow and methodical swimmers and should be placed with peaceful tank mates in an environment that provides many hiding places such as rockwork or plants. Orbic Cardinal fish are likely to hide in sea grass or other plants, and some may camouflage themselves against long spined sea urchins. When kept in small groups, these fish will form a strict hierarchy without showing aggression.
To ensure the health of the Orbic Cardinalfish, a varied and balanced diet is recommended. This species of fish will thrive on a diet consisting of meaty foods, such as feeder shrimp, pellet foods, and flake foods. In addition, marine flesh, bloodworms, and live feeder fish may also be added to the diet, depending on the size of the fish. Providing a diverse range of food options will help keep the Orbic Cardinalfish healthy and happy in the aquarium.
