The Flower Cardinalfish, also called the Bulls eye Cardinalfish and Ring tailed cardinalfish, is a unique saltwater fish as it belongs to the mouth brooders. It boasts proportionally large eyes with two distinct blue lines across them and a black band around the tail. Its dorsal and caudal fins have an orange edge, while the lower body half has an orange tint. With a fairly prominent lateral line, this species can grow up to 10 cm in length.
During the day, the Flower Cardinalfish can be found in shoals under overhangs or in caves, often alongside other species of cardinal fish or sweepers. Occasionally, they can be seen hiding in grass beds during the day. At night, they disperse to feed. They are distributed across the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific and can be found at depths of 1-30 meters.
The Flower Cardinalfish is a nocturnal feeder that mainly consumes zooplankton and small benthic organisms. They gather in shoals during the day and feed singly at night.
