The Captive-Bred Picasso Percula Clownfish is a popular variant of the Percula Clownfish. This variant occurs naturally in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, but is rare to find.
The Picasso Percula Clownfish displays extra white mainly on its center stripe, and each fish is unique and hand-selected by experienced graders. The amount of white present, oddness of the striping, and rarity of the markings are graded in the selection process.
Captive-bred fish have an advantage over wild-harvested species, as they are hardy and more adapted to conditions found in home aquariums, making them suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists.
The Picasso Percula Clownfish is easy to breed in the home aquarium. The females are larger than the males, and the pair usually stays close together. As egg-layers, clownfish deposit their eggs on flat surfaces and defend them from other tank mates. Eggs usually hatch in 8-11 days depending on water temperature, and the fry need to be reared in a separate aquarium on a diet of rotifers and baby brine shrimp.
The Picasso Percula Clownfish has a versatile diet, consuming almost any meaty food items and herbivore preparations.
