Pom Pom Crab (Lybia sp.)
Max Size: 1 inch
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: With Caution. May sting corals
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons
The Pom Pom Crab has a white to tan body with darker markings that provide camouflage for the crab. What makes this crab unique is that it carries an anemone in each claw, which serves as both a defense mechanism and a tool for picking up food from rocks and substrate.
Adding the Pom Pom Crab to an aquarium is an interesting choice, as it comes with its own anemones. These anemones are raised by the crab to deter predators and also help keep the aquarium clean by consuming leftover food and detritus. However, caution should be exercised when adding this crab to a reef aquarium, as the anemones can potentially sting sessile invertebrates and corals. Although the damage caused by these tiny anemones is minimal due to their small size.
In terms of diet, the Pom Pom Crab should be fed meaty foods like mysis shrimp, chopped fish, and clams.
