Sally Lightfoot Crab (Percnon gibbesi)
Max Size: 3 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Sally Lightfoot Crab, also called the Nimble Spray, Short, or Urchin Crab, has a brown body with distinctive orange to yellow rings on its legs. Although it belongs to the family of shore crabs, it is less likely than other genera to venture onto land. Its carapace is flat, which enables it to conceal itself in narrow crevices in rock formations.
To thrive, the Sally Lightfoot Crab requires a large aquarium with plenty of rock work, creating hiding places and scavenging areas for detritus. It is best suited for strong currents. While it feeds primarily on algae, larger crabs can become aggressive and catch small invertebrates and fish.
If there is not enough algae present, supplement the crab's diet with dried seaweed and meaty items.
