The Regal damselfish, also known as the Caerulean damsel fish, Yellow Belly damselfish, and Golden Belly Damselfish, is a brilliantly colored fish that is easily spotted on the reef. The oval-shaped body of this small damsel is electric blue on the upper body and dorsal fin, which changes to yellow and blue dots towards the rear. The lower body and anal fin are yellow, and the caudal fin is yellow as well. When viewed under the right light, the blue on the upper body is particularly stunning. Although they can grow up to 10 cm, they are typically smaller, with the largest observed size being 6 cm in Tanzanian waters.
Despite their colorful appearance, Caerulean damsel fish are not commonly seen in aquariums due to their territorial nature and tendency to chase other fish. In the wild, they feed on zooplankton and algae.
