The male Blue Damselfish, also known as the Blue Devil Damselfish, is commonly referred to as the Orangetail Blue Damselfish due to its distinct orange tail. While the female is entirely blue, the male's bright coloration makes it a popular addition to saltwater aquariums. In the wild, Blue Damselfish are commonly found defending a small territory within reefs. They have the ability to hide in a crevice or hole and darken their color to almost black when threatened, but quickly return to their electric blue color once the threat is gone.

The Orangetail Blue Damselfish is a hardy and active fish, making it an ideal choice for beginners. However, it is somewhat aggressive and should be kept in a tank of over 30 gallons that can accommodate multiple specimens. As the fish matures, its aggression may increase, making it difficult to add other species to the aquarium. To minimize aggression when keeping multiple damselfish, provide multiple hiding places to break up territories.

The Orangetail Blue Damselfish should be fed a diet of flaked and frozen foods, as well as herbivore preparations. It can also make a great companion for reefs and invertebrates.
