Minimum Tank Size: 50 gallons
The Snowflake Eel, also known as the Snowflake Moray Eel, Clouded Moray, or Starry Moray, is a strikingly beautiful moray that can be found living in caves and crevices throughout the Indo-Pacific reefs. While in the wild it can reach lengths of up to 39 inches, captive specimens usually grow up to 24 inches.
This eel is quite resilient, but is known to be an escape artist. To ensure their safety, a tank of at least 50 gallons with ample live rock and a well-fitting canopy is recommended. The Snowflake Eel is compatible with fish that it cannot easily swallow but may not be compatible with crustaceans, although it can coexist with certain invertebrates like anemones and corals.
In their natural habitat, Snowflake Eels are nocturnal predators that ambush fish and crustaceans. In captivity, they will readily consume frozen or freeze-dried krill, fish, shrimp, and other meaty foods. While they can be trained to hand feed, it's important to exercise caution as their bite can be quite painful.
