The Squaretail Bristletooth Tang, scientifically known as truncatus, exhibits a strikingly vibrant appearance when young, displaying a radiant yellow body. Its name is derived from the short tail fin, lacking the pointed tips seen in other species of the Ctenochaetus genus. This fish showcases a captivating blend of colors, featuring a brown to orange body adorned with pale blue to bright yellow spots on the head, body, and base of the dorsal fin. Its eyes are ringed in a brilliant yellow hue. The Squaretail Bristletooth Tang possesses a unique mouth with bristle-like teeth that can move individually, allowing it to sift, sort, and scrape for food.

To accommodate the Squaretail Bristletooth Tang's need for ample swimming space, a tank size of 70 gallons or larger is essential. While it may display aggression towards other Tangs and could face harassment from its own species, this species remains peaceful when housed alongside other fish and sessile invertebrates. It is advisable to have only one specimen per tank to avoid territorial disputes.

While Tangs are known to consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, providing them with an abundant supply of marine-based seaweed and algae is crucial for their overall health. A diet rich in seaweed and algae strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and contributes to their well-being.
