Bullet Sleeper Goby (Amblygobius phalaena)
Max Size: 6 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Bullet Goby, also known as the Brownbarred Goby and Sleeper Banded Goby, was first discovered in the Indo-Pacific Ocean back in 1837 by Valenciennes. This intriguing fish exhibits a greenish-yellow head adorned with blue and orange dots and dashes, while the rest of its body displays vibrant yellow with brown bands.
To provide a suitable environment, the Bullet Goby should be kept in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium with a substrate of loose coral rubble. It is essential to have a tight-fitting lid to prevent the fish from jumping out of the tank. While it generally remains peaceful towards other fish, it is territorial and may engage in conflicts with its own kind unless they form a mated pair.
In terms of diet, the Bullet Goby primarily feeds on tiny crustaceans in the substrate and filamentous algae. In the home aquarium, it is recommended to offer a varied diet, including vitamin-enriched brine shrimp (live or frozen), mysis shrimp, and prepared foods for herbivores. Additionally, providing nori strips can be beneficial if the aquarium lacks macro algae growth. The fish should be fed at least three times per day, adjusting the frequency based on the availability of natural live food within the aquarium.
