Hi-Fin Red Banded Goby (Stonogobiops nematodes)
Max Size: 2 inches
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons
The Hi Fin Red Banded Goby, also known as the Striped Goby or Blackray Shrimp Goby, displays a striking appearance with its silver-white body, yellow face, and distinct dark diagonal stripes across its body. It proves to be a delightful addition to both passive fish-only setups and reef aquariums, where it may even form a symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp.
For an ideal habitat, provide an aquarium of at least 10 gallons with abundant live rock and a sandy substrate. The Hi Fin Red Banded Goby shows a non-aggressive nature towards other shrimp gobies and may even share a burrow with another species. However, due to its territorial tendencies, it might occasionally quarrel with conspecifics if kept together or if the tank is too small.
In a well-maintained aquarium, successful spawning of the Hi Fin Red Banded Goby is possible.
To maintain its well-being, feed the goby a diet consisting of mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and chopped table shrimp. It should be fed at least twice daily. Initially, when introduced to the aquarium, it may not eat for a few days, but it typically acclimates and starts feeding afterward.
