The Steinitz Goby, also called Steinitz' Prawn Goby, hails from the rubble zones of the Indian Ocean and shares the typical elongated body and prominent eyes found in other watchman gobies. These charming fish showcase a white body adorned with brown vertical bands, and their appearance is further enhanced by small blue spots that intensify with their mood. Additionally, they may establish a beneficial symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp.
To provide the optimal living conditions for the Steinitz Goby, a 10-gallon or larger aquarium with a sand-covered bottom to facilitate burrowing is essential. They prefer the company of peaceful tank mates and ample hiding spots. When introducing them to the tank, it is advisable to do so in small groups or pairs simultaneously.
These gobies are relatively hardy and highly resistant to disease, and successful spawning has been observed in the aquarium environment.
To maintain their health and well-being, the diet of the Steinitz Goby should consist of a variety of fresh or frozen seafood, along with brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Regular feedings, twice per day, will ensure their nutritional needs are met.
