The Freckled Hawkfish, alternatively recognized as Forster's Hawkfish or Blackside Hawkfish, experiences multiple color transformations as it progresses through different life stages. During its juvenile phase, it boasts a burgundy hue with a complementary yellow tail. In adulthood, its coloration may manifest as pink, brown, or olive. A consistent feature includes the black or red freckles gracing its facial area throughout its entire lifespan.
Providing ample space is crucial for the well-being of the Freckled Hawkfish. A tank capacity of at least 70 gallons is recommended. This hawkfish exhibits a diet that encompasses crustaceans and smaller fish in its hunting repertoire. When introduced to a semi-aggressive to aggressive fish community, it's advisable to add the Freckled Hawkfish as the final member. Its territorial tendencies become prominent, often leading to the harassment of new additions, even including larger hawkfish and fish species.
For optimal nutrition, the diet of the Freckled Hawkfish should be diversified. This entails incorporating a mix of marine meats, frozen preparations, and live feeder shrimp into its feeding routine.
