The Blue Linckia Sea Star is undoubtedly a gem for devoted reef aquarium enthusiasts. Its striking blue coloration is truly remarkable, making it a captivating focal point. This beautiful sea star may occasionally exhibit red or purplish spots, adding to its allure. Often known as the Comet Sea Star, Blue Sea Star, or Blue Starfish, it exudes a unique charm in any aquarium.

In its natural habitat, the Blue Linckia Sea Star is typically found in sunny areas of the reef and reef fringe, constantly searching for food. To recreate a suitable home aquarium environment, provide a well-lit setup with a sandy or coral rubble substrate and ample rocky hiding places. As a young sea star (with blue-green coloration), it tends to seek refuge in small caves or overhangs during most of the day. However, as it matures into an adult, it anchors itself to rocks or glass and extends one or two arms into the water to search for small, free-floating microbes. While it prefers a solitary lifestyle, it can coexist peacefully with other starfish and amiable fish in the tank.

The Blue Linckia Sea Star is highly sensitive to abrupt changes in oxygen levels, salinity, and pH of the water. It is crucial to avoid copper-based medications, and the drip-acclimation method is strongly recommended for all Sea Stars due to their sensitivity to changes in water chemistry. When handling this sea star, it should never be exposed to air, and it's essential to carefully monitor for the presence of a small parasitic snail called Thyca crystallina. Though the Blue Linckia Sea Star can regenerate a new starfish from a broken portion of its body in the wild, this is less likely to occur in a home aquarium.

To supplement its diet, small pieces of clam meat or tablets can be placed under the Blue Linckia Sea Star, ensuring it receives the necessary nourishment to thrive.
