The Firefish, also known as the Firefish Goby, Fire Goby, Magnificent Goby, or Fire Dartfish, is a beloved and sought-after fish in the marine hobby. Its stunning coloration, unique body shape, and charming personality make it a true gem. The Firefish Goby boasts a yellow head, white anterior, and a pinkish to orange-red posterior, with black highlights on its dorsal, anal, and caudal fins. Its small size and sweet temperament make it an excellent addition to smaller reef systems.

In its natural habitat, the Firefish Goby is often found in groups, hovering over reefs to capture planktonic food carried by the current. This docile fish tends to be timid, seeking safety in "bolt-holes" within the reef when threatened. In a home aquarium, it requires multiple hiding spots among rocky crags or outcroppings where it can quickly retreat if stressed. While generally non-aggressive towards other fish, it may show territorial behavior towards its own species, though mated pairs can coexist harmoniously.

To replicate its natural environment, a 20-gallon or larger aquarium with moderate lighting and a gentle current passing over live rock is recommended. It is crucial to have a secure lid, as a stressed Firefish Goby may attempt to jump out of the tank.

As for its diet, the Firefish Goby should be offered a mix of vitamin-enriched brine fish (live or frozen), mysis shrimp, and prepared marine foods. In addition to the provided food, it will also graze on algae and zooplankton present in the aquarium.
