The Sailfin Tang, also recognized as the Pacific Sailfin Tang, boasts an oval body shape adorned with captivating and distinctive markings. Its brown-colored body exhibits light freckles on the nose, accompanied by five vertical yellow stripes with intricate patterns within each stripe. The tail of the Sailfin Tang begins with a vibrant yellow hue and transitions into captivating blue highlights. This fish possesses the remarkable ability to alter its apparent size by raising or lowering its tall dorsal and anal fins.
To accommodate the Sailfin Tang, a spacious aquarium of 180 gallons or larger is necessary to provide ample swimming room. It should be noted that this species can display aggression towards its own kind or conspecifics on occasion, but generally remains peaceful towards other fish in the tank. If introducing multiple Sailfin Tangs, it is advisable to do so simultaneously.
While Tangs are known to consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, it is crucial to offer them an abundance of marine-based seaweed and algae. This dietary inclusion contributes to their immune system's strength, reduces aggression, and enhances overall health. Dried seaweed can be secured to a rock or utilized with a veggie clip, and feeding should occur at least three times per week. Products such as Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are highly recommended due to their convenience and effectiveness.
