Purple Tiger Scallop (Gloriapallium pallium)
The Purple Tiger Scallop earns its name from its striking purple hue and black bands, reminiscent of a tiger's stripes. Sporting a classic clam-like shell, it grows to approximately six inches when fully mature, with shell colors ranging from white to pink and darker purple.
As filter feeders, Purple Tiger Scallops primarily derive their nutrition from particles in the tank's water. Their diet includes krill, algae, larvae, and various types of plankton.
Although not commonly found in the aquarium trade, Purple Tiger Scallops are highly sought after when available and tend to sell out quickly. These non-aggressive, peaceful invertebrates make excellent additions to reef tanks, posing little to no harm to their tankmates.
