Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons
The Bumble Bee Shrimp, also known as the Striped Harlequin Shrimp, is a common inhabitant of the Indo-Pacific region. These tiny shrimp reach a maximum size of only 1 inch. Their striking appearance consists of a yellow or white body with distinctive black stripes, resembling a bumblebee. Additionally, their legs and tail may display attractive orange markings. Bumble Bee Shrimps share similarities with Harlequin shrimp and have a diet that includes the tube feet of echinoderms.
For optimal care, it is best to keep the Bumble Bee Shrimp in pairs within a small nano aquarium with moderate lighting for easy observation. They are sensitive to copper and high nitrate levels, and it is crucial to maintain correct iodine levels to facilitate proper molting.
While the Bumble Bee Shrimp will consume the tube feet of echinoderms, it is not a mandatory part of their diet. You can offer them frozen meaty foods like brine or mysis shrimp, cockle, or small pieces of fish, and it's recommended to feed them daily.
Due to their small size, caution should be exercised when introducing them into the aquarium, as there is a possibility that larger organisms may view them as prey. Providing suitable hiding spots will help ensure their safety and well-being in the tank.
