The Pederson Cleaner Shrimp, also known as the Caribbean Anemone Shrimp, is indigenous to the Western part of the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean oceans. These shrimp exhibit a transparent brown coloration with captivating purple and blue markings. Their prominent front claws are adorned with the same vivid patterns of purple and blue. Notably, these shrimp serve as cleaner organisms, attracting fish with their large antennae and providing cleaning services, even inside the mouths of certain fish species.
For optimal well-being, the Pederson Cleaner Shrimp thrives in a reef aquarium that offers abundant live rock, which provides both hiding places and opportunities for foraging. While they can establish symbiotic relationships with various species of anemones, such associations are not essential for the shrimp's health. The shrimp entice larger fish into their vicinity and climb onto them to eliminate parasites. It is important not to house the cleaner shrimp with any fish or invertebrates that may pose a threat to them.
In the aquarium setting, the Pederson Cleaner Shrimp readily consumes most meat- or fish-based diets, ensuring their nutritional needs are met.
