Big Eye Squirrelfish

The Big Eye Soldierfish, also referred to as the Blackbar Soldierfish, displays a vibrant red hue with delicate white outlines on its fins. Featuring large eyes with a black center pupil, this fish boasts a distinctive appearance.

To create an optimal habitat, a 70-gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock for hiding is recommended. The presence of suitable hiding spots and sufficient space in the aquarium makes a small group of these fish suitable. As a nocturnal species, it tends to hide when the lights are on and actively explores in the darkness to find food. Its diet includes invertebrates such as worms (including fireworms), crustaceans, and serpent stars.

Upon introduction to the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp can be employed to encourage feeding. The diet of the Big Eye Black Bar Soldierfish may include live feeder shrimp, freeze-dried shrimp, and chopped marine meats that exhibit movement in the water column.
