Orange Linckia Starfish (Linckia spp. )
Max Size: 6 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallon
The Orange Linckia is a starfish that requires careful attention as it is highly sensitive to changes in pH, temperature, and salinity. Slight changes can cause bacterial infections which can quickly decompose the Linckia's leg portions. To avoid parasitic snails, which can mimic the color of the host, frequent inspections are recommended. They should be removed immediately as they feed on fluids and tissues. Additionally, Linckia needs a lengthy and slow acclimation period before being introduced to the display aquarium.
These starfish can grow up to 6 inches and should be kept in very large aquariums. They primarily consume bacterial films and sponges, therefore they should be introduced into well-established aquariums of at least 1 year. While they may occasionally appreciate offerings of clam, mussel, or scallop, supplemental feedings of meaty foods are typically insufficient to sustain them. It is best to rely on the bacterial film that naturally occurs in a well-established and seasoned aquarium.
