Eibli Mimic Tang (Acanthurus tristis)
Max Size: 10 inches
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
The Mimic Eibli Tang derives its name from its striking resemblance to the scientific name of the Centropyge eibli angelfish, which it mimics in appearance. This Tang features an elegant oval-shaped body adorned with vibrant orange vertical lines. Its stomach area showcases a beautiful yellow to orange hue, gradually darkening toward its black tail. These captivating fish not only add beauty to a marine fish or reef aquarium but also play a crucial role in algae control.
To accommodate the active nature of the Mimic Eibli Tang, a spacious 125-gallon or larger aquarium is essential, providing plenty of room for swimming. However, it's important to note that this Tang is highly aggressive towards other Tangs or Surgeonfish, especially those resembling it in form and color. As such, it is best kept as the sole representative of its kind in the tank, except in very large systems. If multiple species of tangs are desired, it is advisable to introduce them all at once to the aquarium.
To ensure the health and well-being of Tangs, a balanced diet is essential. While they will consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, offering them plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae is crucial. This practice strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Providing dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip allows them easy access to these important nutrients at least 3 times per week. Excellent products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal for this purpose and are user-friendly.
