Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas)
Max Size: 1 foot
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
The Scopas Tang, also referred to as the Brown Scopas Tang, displays a striking coloration with yellow on its dorsal side and brown on its ventral side. As we move towards the tail, these colors gradually intensify. The body is adorned with delicate and intricate light blue markings, while the tail remains solid brown in color. Juvenile Scopas Tangs possess a touch more allure, featuring larger dorsal and anal fins and a slightly purplish hue to their bodies.
To accommodate the Scopas Tang's need for ample swimming space, a tank size of at least 125 gallons is essential. Due to its aggressive nature towards both its own species and other tangs, it is advisable to house only one Scopas Tang per aquarium.
In addition to consuming meaty foods alongside other fish in the tank, providing marine-based seaweed and algae is crucial for the well-being of the Scopas Tang. This dietary emphasis contributes to a stronger immune system, reduced aggression, and overall improved health. Offering dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip, and feeding at least three times per week, will ensure its dietary needs are met. Excellent products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are highly recommended for their nutritional value and ease of use in promoting the Scopas Tang's vitality.
