The Orangeshoulder Tang, known by various names such as Orange-epaulette Surgeonfish, Orangespot Surgeonfish, Orangeband Surgeonfish, and Orangeshoulder Surgeonfish, exhibits a captivating transformation as it matures. During its juvenile stage, it displays a vibrant solid yellow color with subtle blue fringing on the anal and dorsal fins. As the Orangeshoulder Tang reaches adulthood, the front half of its body transitions to a light gray hue, while the back half adopts a dark gray-blue color. A striking orange stripe stands out above its pectoral fins, bordered by the dark gray coloration. The tail elegantly forms a lyre shape, adding to its allure.

For this active and beautifully colored fish, a spacious 180-gallon or larger aquarium is essential to provide ample swimming room. The Orangeshoulder Tang is generally not aggressive towards other Tangs; however, if housing more than one in the same aquarium, it is best to introduce a juvenile alongside an adult.

To ensure the Orangeshoulder Tang's optimal health and well-being, a well-rounded diet is crucial. While it will readily consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, a significant portion of its diet should consist of marine-based seaweed and algae. This dietary emphasis strengthens its immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Offering dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip, and feeding at least three times per week, are excellent practices to meet its dietary needs. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal choices for this purpose, as they are convenient and easy to incorporate into the feeding routine.
