The Disappearing Wrasse, known by various names such as Scarlet Pin Stripe Wrasse, Secretive Wrasse, or Striated Wrasse, is a stunning fish displaying a deep red to maroon coloration with faint horizontal stripes along its body to the gill covering. A distinct pale blue stripe or marking can be seen under each eye.
To ensure the well-being of this beautiful fish, a spacious 30-gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and live rock is essential, as it allows them to forage for food. However, due to occasional aggressive behavior towards peaceful Wrasses, it is advisable to introduce this species as the last addition to the aquarium. The Disappearing Wrasse has a diet centered around live foods like small crustaceans, including pyramidellid snails (clam parasites), commensal flatworms, and bristleworms, making it an excellent choice for reef aquariums.
To meet its dietary requirements, the Disappearing Wrasse should be offered vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. A high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food can also be included in its diet to ensure a balanced nutrition.
