Eight Line Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus octotaenia)
Max Size: 5 inches
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Aggressive
Reef Compatible: With Caution. May eat small invertebrates.
Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons
The Eight Lined Wrasse, also known as Eightstripe Wrasse or Eightline Wrasse, boasts a stunning appearance with eight vibrant, horizontal red stripes adorning its striking orange body. Its fins and tail are beautifully intricate, adding to its allure.
For the proper care of this species, a well-equipped aquarium of at least 55 gallons is recommended. The tank should have plenty of rocks to provide hiding spots and live rock to graze on, which is essential for their well-being. It's important to note that the Eight Lined Wrasse displays high aggression towards other wrasses and is best kept alone. If it is to be introduced into an aggressive community tank, it should be the first fish added. It can coexist well with larger fish that have the ability to defend themselves. While it poses no threat to corals and often seeks shelter among them, it will prey on shrimp, crabs, and other small crustaceans, as well as snails, urchins, and bristleworms.
To maintain the health of the Eight Lined Wrasse, its diet should include a variety of nutritious foods. Offer them vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Additionally, providing high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food will help complement their dietary needs.
By providing a suitable environment and a well-rounded diet, you can enjoy the vibrant colors and fascinating behavior of the Eight Lined Wrasse in your aquarium.
