The Six Line Wrasse is a visually striking and energetic fish. Its vibrant orange body adorned with six distinct, horizontal blue lines adds a burst of color to any marine reef aquarium. During courtship, the male Six Line Wrasse displays intensified colors, enhancing its beauty. However, it is the lively and darting behavior amidst rock formations and corals that truly captivates observers.

Also known as the Sixline or Sixstripe Wrasse, scientifically named Pseudocheilinus hexataenia, this species originates from the Indo-Pacific reefs and the coast of Fiji. In its natural habitat, the Six Line Wrasse scavenges for food among corals and rocks, typically preferring solitude. In a home aquarium, it thrives in a peaceful environment with ample hiding spots and live rock for foraging. The Six Line Wrasse feeds on live prey such as pyramidellid snails (clam parasites), urchins, and commensal flatworms, which it actively seeks out on live rock. It also serves as a natural predator for undesirable pests like bristleworms.

While generally peaceful, the Six Line Wrasse may display aggression towards peaceful Wrasses and other easily intimidated fish, particularly when underfed or lacking hiding places in its habitat.

To maintain a healthy diet, the Six Line Wrasse should be offered vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Supplementing with high-quality marine flake and marine pellet food is also recommended.
