The Banded Possum Wrasse, native to Indonesia, is also called the Pygmy Possum Wrasse or Arrowhead Wrasse. Its arrowhead-like body is predominantly red/orange with yellow vertical stripes in juvenile coloration, but it darkens to a deep rustish color as it matures. Although males and females have similar coloration, males intensify their colors when courting.
This active, peaceful fish can be a vibrant addition to a 10-gallon or larger fish-only or reef aquarium. It poses no threat to corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for the reef aquarium. A single male can be kept with a group of females introduced before or at the same time as the male. Due to their jumping behavior, a tight-fitting canopy is recommended.
To ensure a healthy diet for the Banded Possum Wrasse, it should be fed vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp and mysis shrimp, as well as other meaty foods, marine flakes, and pellets.
