Black Cap Basslet (Gramma melacara)
Max Size: 4 inches
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Black Cap Basslet is a deep-water Caribbean species with a stunning purple body and jet-black diagonal cap, making it a striking addition to any aquarium. It is a peaceful fish and poses no threat to any invertebrates other than small Copepods, Isopods, or Amphipods. To house this fish, a 30-gallon tank with rock caves for hiding is sufficient, and the lighting should be slightly subdued, reflecting their deep-water habitat. However, they should not be kept with other basslets, as they can become territorial.
The Black Cap Basslet's diet should consist of meaty foods such as marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, and quality frozen preparations, all of which it will do well on.
