Black-Lined Blenny (Meiacanthus nigrolineatus)
Max Size: 3 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Blackline Blenny is a member of the Meicanthus genus, which possess a venomous bite used as a defense mechanism against predators. By biting the inside of the mouth of the larger fish, they can escape being swallowed. The Blackline Blenny has yellow and green coloration with black markings following its lateral line. The Red Sea Mimic Blenny has evolved to mimic this species to avoid predators. This peaceful fish makes a stunning addition to a community aquarium.
These fish can be found among crevices and rocks on the bottom of their environment and need a tank of at least 10 gallons with scattered rocks for perching and hiding. They are generally peaceful in nature and are considered reef-safe.
To maintain a healthy diet, the Blackline Blenny should be fed meaty items such as vitamin-enriched brine and mysis shrimp, chopped pieces of fish and shrimp, and quality flake food.
