Heniochus Butterfly (Heniochus acuminatus)
Max Size: 8 1/2 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: No
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
The Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish, also known as the Longfin Bannerfish, showcases a stunning elongated white dorsal filament, adding to its unique appearance. Its predominantly white body is adorned with two wide black stripes, while the soft dorsal and caudal fins display a striking yellow coloration. Above the eyes, you'll find distinctive black marks. Interestingly, members of the Heniochus genera are commonly referred to as Bannerfish rather than Butterflyfish.
For suitable care, the Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish can thrive in a spacious 125-gallon or larger aquarium. They coexist peacefully with other non-aggressive fish and can even live harmoniously with others of the same species if all are introduced to the tank simultaneously. A remarkable sight, the elongated white dorsal filament gracefully moves like a banner in the water as they swim.
However, it's important to note that this particular Heniochus species is not considered reef safe. As it leans towards a carnivorous diet, it prefers consuming small meaty foods and herbivore preparations.
With their striking appearance and peaceful nature, the Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish can make an excellent addition to a suitable aquarium setup, provided their dietary needs and compatibility with other tank inhabitants are carefully considered. Regular observation and proper care will help ensure the well-being of these beautiful fish in the aquatic environment.
