Flame Cardinalfish (Apogon spp.)
Max Size: 4 inches
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Flame Cardinalfish, also known as the Flamefish, boasts fiery red coloration with light accents of blue and green. This species is best kept in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of caves and peaceful tank mates due to its slow and methodical swimming habits. It is not recommended to keep this fish in large groups due to its aggressive behavior towards other Cardinalfish, although it does well in mated pairs. As a nocturnal fish, the Flame Cardinalfish can be observed using a red light.
To maintain optimal health, the Flame Cardinalfish requires a well-balanced and vitamin-enriched diet of meaty foods. Its diet should include feeder shrimp, marine flesh, bloodworms, and depending on its size, live feeder fish.
