Warpaint/Green Clown Goby (Gobiodon atrangulatus)
Max Size: 2 inches
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons
The Green Clown Goby, also known as the Earspot Coral Goby, is a commonly found species in the Indo Pacific reefs, often seen among both soft and hard coral colonies. With a stocky build and a relatively large head for its size, this goby displays a delightful yellow to greenish-tan color adorned with captivating orange vertical stripes on its head. Its peaceful nature makes it an excellent addition to a reef aquarium that houses polyp corals, as it takes pleasure in swimming and seeking shelter among the polyps. However, it's worth noting that they may nip at the polyps of SPS corals.
For their well-being, a 10-gallon or larger aquarium with branching coral is preferred. While the Green Clown Goby is generally non-aggressive towards other fish, it may engage in fights with its own kind in smaller tanks. Therefore, maintaining them alongside other docile species is advisable.
In an aquarium setting, clown gobies, including the Green Clown Goby, are known to spawn. However, caution should be exercised if the aquarium contains Acropora sp. or similar SPS corals, as they may lay their eggs on the coral's underside, potentially causing tissue recession in that area. With favorable conditions, the coral will likely regenerate the lost tissue.
To meet their dietary needs, the Green Clown Goby should be offered a diverse diet comprising brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, table shrimp, and frozen food preparations specially formulated for carnivores. Providing these food items will ensure their health and vitality.
