Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris x A. ocellaris var.)
Max Size: 3 inches
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
The Mocha Clownfish is a captivating species with its striking dark orange color and contrasting white stripes. It's an affordable addition to any aquarium and can grow up to 3 inches in size. The captive-bred Mocha Clownfish is hardier than its wild-caught counterparts, making it an ideal choice for novice and experienced aquarists. It can be kept singly or in groups, and with other captive-bred clownfish if introduced at the same time.
Breeding the Mocha Clownfish is relatively easy in a home aquarium. The female is usually larger than the male, and they tend to stay close to each other. As egg-layers, they deposit their eggs on a flat surface and fiercely defend them from other tank mates. The eggs typically hatch in 6-11 days, depending on the temperature, and the fry need to be reared separately with a diet of rotifers and baby brine shrimp.
The Mocha Clownfish is an omnivore, requiring a balanced diet of both meaty and herbivore foods. High-quality marine flake food rich in spirulina algae, along with freeze-dried and frozen foods, are readily accepted.
