Bristletooth Tomini Tang (Ctenochaetus tominiensis)
Max Size: 6 inches
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 70 gallons
The Bristletooth Tomini Tang, also known as the Tomini Surgeonfish, exhibits a delightful color palette as a juvenile, featuring a combination of tan, yellow, blue, and white highlights. As they mature, their body color solidifies, the tail transforms into a striking blue, and their dorsal and anal fins are tipped with a beautiful golden-yellow hue. Above the eyes, you'll notice small golden flecks, and a golden half-circle complements their appearance below.
To ensure the well-being of the Bristletooth Tomini Tang, a spacious aquarium of at least 70 gallons is required, providing ample room for swimming. Although they can be aggressive towards other Tangs, they usually coexist peacefully with other fish in the tank.
A balanced diet is essential for Tangs, as it is for other fish in the aquarium. While they do consume meaty foods, it is vital to offer them an abundance of marine-based seaweed and algae. This dietary addition strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and promotes overall health. Providing dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip and feeding at least 3 times per week ensures their nutritional needs are met. Excellent products such as Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are available and easy to use for this purpose.
