Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Reef Compatible: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 180 gallons
The Blonde Naso Tang, also known as the Orange-spine Unicornfish, undergoes color changes as it matures. While juveniles display a gray body with a yellow stripe on the dorsal and anal fin, adults take on a darker bluish-gray tone with additional colors. The tail transforms into a lyre shape, and two yellow patches appear near the tail's peduncle spines. A distinctive black mask forms between the eyes and mouth, and the lips adopt a yellow hue. Notably, Naso Tangs from Hawaii tend to exhibit brighter colors compared to those from other regions.
To accommodate the Blonde Naso Tang's needs, a spacious 180-gallon or larger aquarium is required, providing ample swimming room, hiding places, and a secure lid to prevent jumping. Although this species can be aggressive towards other tangs, it tends to coexist peacefully with other fish in the tank.
Maintaining a balanced diet is essential for Tangs, along with other fish in the aquarium. In addition to meaty foods, offering marine-based seaweed and algae is crucial for their well-being. This diet helps bolster their immune system, reduce aggression, and enhance overall health. Providing dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip and feeding at least 3 times per week ensures their dietary needs are met. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent choices and simple to use.
